What It Is
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures from Bandai Namco Games is a new game that is based on the new animated series on Disney XD. The series and game is all about Pac-Man and his pals protecting their world, Pac-World, from ghosts. It's a great spin on the old arcade game and while the look is completely new, there are some subtle references to the old game, including sound effects, background images and Pac-Man's steady diet of power pellets.
Why It’s Fun
There are six unique worlds with multiple levels in each. The levels have start points and it's up to players to find the finish. On the way, you get to explore some interesting environments with great graphics and plenty of different ghosts, each with their own distinct way of splatting Pac-Man.
Pac-Man can chomp ghosts, like the old game, but in a really fun twist, Pac-Man also has a bunch of different special powers found throughout the levels that give him some fun and sometimes funny suits and skills. One suit gives Pac-Man the ability to launch fireballs, another turns Pac-Man into a bouncing ball and one of the funniest puts Pac-Man in a green iguana suit with a powerful tongue that can grab ghosts or allow Pac-Man to swing from pole to pole.
Who It’s For
The game is rated Everyone 10+. Pac-Man and the ghosts are cute, which is going to appeal to young gamers but the game itself gets increasingly more difficult and could become frustrating for kids under the age of 8.
What To Be Aware Of
In addition to the main single-player story mode, the game also has a multi-player mode that allows up to four people to play together as the ghosts.
Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, 3DS and Steam (PC).
As far as Replayability, there isn't any real reason to return to a completed level, however, there is a separate area of the game, where Pac-Man goes to High School. In the school, players can access arcade-style mini-games, once they have collected enough Power Ups in the levels.
