What It Is
Disney Planes is the video game based on the animated movie of the same name. In the game, there are four different modes that allow kids to play as 10 different plane characters from the movie. The four modes, which include Story Mode, Free Flight, Air Rallies and Balloon Pop, are all flying-based games with different objectives.
Why It’s Fun
This is a large game with countless hours of play-time for kids. It starts with a tutorial, which is very helpful in learning how to master the flying characters' controls. From there, kids are free to select from any of the four modes, however, Story Mode is the main (and largest) mode. In Story Mode, players start off with just a few unlocked planes. Whichever plane they choose will lead to a different series of story-based missions. If Dusty is selected, the game opens on Propwash Junction and the first four available missions, each of which have multiple objectives.
Who It’s For
Planes is rated E for everyone. It's a fun game for young fans of the movie, especially around the ages of 6 to 10. Kids younger than that might find it a little challenging.
While we don't imagine too many adults playing this on their own, it is a fun game to play with the kids in their lives.
What To Be Aware Of
All of the collected puzzle pieces in Free Flight Mode unlock a postcard that can be viewed in the awards area.
We used the Wii version for our review but the game is also available for Wii U, 3DS and DS. In the console versions, all games can be played by a single player but a second player can drop in and out whenever they want.
