What It Is
Transformers Prime: The Game is based on the animated series – Transformers Prime – that airs on The Hub Network. The game is an action-packed, adventure game starring the Autobots and Decepticons. Once again, the Autobots are battling the Decepticons and in this game, they are trying to keep Megatron from getting his hands on a deadly new weapon.
Why It’s Fun
You play through the game as five different Autobots – Optimus, Bumblebee, Ratchet, Arcee and Bulkhead – with each Autobot staring in their own unique level. The levels change from battling hordes of Decepticons to racing as an Autobot in vehicle form.
One of the things that we love about this game is that you can transform your Transformers character whenever and wherever you want. Also, each Autobot has some really cool moves and combo moves that can be activated through a simple series of actions on the Wii-remote. We think that kids are really going to like a move that involves speeding up to a Decepticon while in vehicle form then flicking the Wii-remote to transform and whack the Decepticon in one swift move.
Who It’s For
Transformers Prime: The Game is definitely intended for the Hub series’ audience but Transformers fans of all ages will enjoy it. It isn’t as intense or dark as Activision’s Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron game, which makes it perfect for young gamers.
The game received a rating of E 10+ because of “fantasy violence” but all that means is that the game involves Autobots fighting Decepticons.
What To Be Aware Of
Levels get progressively more difficult but are still designed for kids. If a player gets stuck on a level or in a boss battle they can retry the level and accept more energy (longer life bar) with each try. If an older kid or teen wants to beat the game without assist, they can decline the extra energy.
Transformers Prime: The Game is available exclusively for Nintendo’s Wii, Wii U, DS and 3DS.
While it will take the average young gamer a few days to complete the main story mode, they probably won’t return to it once completed. Older kids and more experienced gamers will be able to complete this rather quickly.
The greatest area for repeat play comes in the online multiplayer mode that up to 11 people can play together. All 11 players will need their own copy of the game.
