What It Is
Mario and his pals from the Mushroom Kingdom are back for another Mario Sports game in Mario Tennis Open. The game continues the Mario Sports tradition of adding over-the-top power-ups and hilarious action to a classic sport.
Why It’s Fun
Mario Tennis Open uses the 3DS’s touch-screen and gyro sensor to allow you to control your character. The gyro sensor function lets you move the character by tilting the 3DS, which is very cool.
Like previous Mario Sports games, you can play as one of the Nintendo characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi and Bowser (to name a few). You can also use one of your own Miis as your playable character.
On its own, this is a single-player game, however, there is also a great multi-player feature that allows up to four people to play a game of doubles tennis together.
Who It’s For
Mario Tennis Open is rated E for everyone and the content is suitable for the youngest gamers. Kids as young as 6 years old should be able to figure out the controls and how to play, and Mario Sports fans of all ages should enjoy this game.
What To Be Aware Of
This is a 3DS exclusive so you will need a 3DS (not a DSi or other non-3-D DS) to play.
To use the multi-player feature, each player will need their own 3DS and a copy of the game.
Repeat Play
No two games will ever be the same, which adds a ton of repeat play. You can also pick this game up for a quick play, which makes it great when you don’t have a lot of time.
