We all have our excuses for not working out. They usually start off with, “I can’t work out because…” and they often end with, “I don’t have time”, “gym memberships are too expensive”, “my home is too small for workout equipment”, “I’m too busy reviewing video games to workout”. Unfortunately (for us excuse-makers), EA’s Active Personal Trainer answers everyone of those “I cant’s” with a yes-you-can[…]

Squeeballs Party is a wacked-out collection of mini-games in which cute, little, living toys called Squeeballs act as the gear in a variety of sports challenges. The challenges range from the everyday activities of bowling and racket sports, where the Squeeballs are bowling pins and balls (respectively) to the more bizarre Stampede Challenge in which the player has to launch bombs at approaching Squeeballs before they can “overwhelm you with their love” (for real).[…]

As I’m writing this, we are just a few days away from the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver so I figured it would be the perfect time to review Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Winter Games for the Nintendo Wii and DS/DSi. This is the second Olympics game (Beijing’s Summer Games was the first) to take some of the most popular and loved characters from the worlds of Nintendo and Sega and pit them against one another in a quest for gold. Playing as one of 20 characters including[…]

Virtual Pet games have come a long way since the first Tamagotchi pets arrived in our pockets. While Tamagotchis are still around and getting more sophisticated all the time (best feature, the pause button so mom and dad don't have to babysit), the current trend in virtual pets is bringing the pets out of pockets and onto game systems. Nintendogs revolutionized the category when it launched on the DS and now World of Zoo brings the long-running craze to the living room. Like all[…]

SimAnimals Africa, the sequel to the first SimAnimals, takes gamers to the wilds of Africa where they will get to know the animals while exploring the exotic Serengeti. Like the traditional Sims games, players have an overhead view of the landscape and inhabitants. However, in this game, those inhabitants are all animals. Players will interact with and control animals, such as zebras, elephants and gorillas, as they use the animals to complete challenges and achieve goals.[…]

Mystery Dungeon is the current series of Pokémon games, introduced in 2005, in which players play the game as a Pokémon creature rather then a human trainer. The latest installment in the series, Explorers of Sky, is a continuation of the previous games-Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness-and features a similar dungeon-exploring gameplay experience with an expanded story line. In Sky, we learn what happened to Grovyle the Thief and find out how the Wigglytuff Guild comes together.[…]

You've probably heard of or even played a Scene It? DVD Game but did you know that they also have new video game versions for the Wii, PS3 and Xbox360? These game-system versions still feature movie trivia questions and puzzles but remove the lag and long load times that often bogged down the DVD versions.[…]

There has been a lot of Toy Story talk lately with details of the next animated film, Toy Story 3, slinking onto the Internet, despite the veil of secrecy that Disney and Pixar have drawn over it. Suffice it to say, that it’s going to be the entertainment event of next summer. But don’t let all the talk confuse you about the new game, Toy Story Mania, which is not a movie tie-in but rather a video game inspired by the attraction at the Disney theme Parks. This video game features the[…]

This may be one of the most difficult games I’ve had to describe yet because it is also one of the most unique and creative. I’ll start with the basics; Scribblenauts is a DS exclusive that combines elements of classic action games, such as Mario Brothers, with imaginative puzzle solving brainteasers like those found in the Professor Layton games. Players use the DS touch screen to help the game’s character, Maxwell, collect a Starite (a gold star) on each level.[…]

Who could have guessed that the band my parents (and some of our grandparents) listened to on vinyl records 40 years ago would become one of the most talked about video games of 2009. The Beatles: Rock Band is the latest Rock Band game and gives players the ability to jam along with the Fab Four or, at least, digitally animated versions, through a collection of songs that span the band’s career. Songs include hits from the early small club days in 1963 Liverpool such as “Twist[…]
