What It Is
The uKloo Early Reader Treasure Hunt Game is a children's early literacy game that is disguised as a treasure hunt. The game comes with 54 clue cards with three color-coded levels of achievement, a Picture Helper reference poster, 12 blank "surprise" cards, and 12 blank "write your own clue" cards.
To play, parents set up five to six clue cards from level 1 to create a scavenger hunt. If your starter card is "Look in the toy box", you will place the next card "Look in your cup" in the toy box. Then, place the "Look in your shoe" card in the cup, etc. When the clue cards are positioned, place a surprise in the last spot of play. The surprise can be anything that might motivate your child, such as a small toy, a candy treat, a special movie rental, or time on the computer.
Once set up, give your child the starter card and have him follow the clues to the surprise, collecting the clue cards as he goes. Kids can use the Picture Helper poster if they need to look up challenging words.
For additional games, mix up the cards and slowly add level 2 and level 3 cards to increase your child's progress and confidence. For maximum reading exposure, it's recommended that you play the game daily.
Why It’s Fun
This is a great game to make reading fun for early readers and reluctant readers. Kids will be having so much fun finding their hidden surprise that they won't even know they are practicing their reading. This is also great for engaging kids in physical activity. With the aid of the Picture Helper poster, kids are empowered to look up words on their own to figure out the clues. As kids become better readers, the game grows with them.
Who It’s For
uKloo Early Reader Treasure Hunt Game is for ages 4 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
You can always remove cards that are inappropriate to your environment. For example, objects that are unavailable or in dangerous or hard-to-reach places.
In addition to developing early reading skills, scavenger hunts are good for developing such early learning skills as sequencing.
