What It Is

With the new Klutz activity book Pom-Pom Puppies by April Chorba, kids can create their own fluffy little puppies out of yarn. Pom-Pom Puppies includes a 56-page book of instructions, four colors of yarn (white, black, tan, and brown), a Klutz pom-pom maker, a styling comb, glue, foam tongues and noses, felt for ears, plastic eyes, tiny ribbon bows, two punch-out dog carriers, a sheet of punch-out dog collars, tiaras, tags, and other accessories.

Use the pom-pom maker to wrap, snap, and snip the pom-pom heads and bodies of the puppies. Then, follow the step-by-step instructions to create a Chihuahua, a Pomeranian, a Pug, a Beagle, a Scottie dog, a Border Collie, and a Yorkie. With a few tweaks, kids can also make a Miniature Pinscher and a Dalmatian plus they can make their puppy sit, lie down, or beg. Accessorize your puppy with the cardstock punch-outs, and then keep your puppies on display in one of the two dog carriers.

Why It’s Fun

This is a really cute activity for crafty kids who love dogs. Watching the dogs take shape as you wrap and cut yarn is pretty cool, and accessorizing the dogs with fun cardstock pieces lets kids give each pup some personality. It does take a bit of time to complete just one Pom-Pom Puppy, but if kids have the patience to carefully read through the instructions and wait for the glue to dry, this will be a very rewarding and cute craft.

Who It’s For

Pom-Pom Puppies is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

You'll need to provide your own scissors, and Klutz recommends smaller scissors with thin, sharp blades. This will make it easier to cut through the yarn when making your pom-pom balls.

You'll most likely run out of yarn before you're able to complete all the puppies in this book. But you can easily purchase more yarn at craft stores or any store that sells knitting supplies.

Cutting the yarn does tend to make a bit of a mess, so expect to be sweeping or vacuuming up your workspace when you finish.
