What It Is
The object of the preschool game Caillou Logico is to build logical three-step sequences of actions taken by Caillou, his mom, and friends as depicted on the game pieces. For example, Caillou writes a letter, he mails it, and he gets letters back. The cards are cut like jigsaw puzzles and kids know they've gotten the sequence correct when the pieces fit together. There are two suggested ways to play. In the first, all the number one pieces are distributed and players take turns drawing a second piece. If it matches a piece in their possession, they continue to a number three piece. When a player can't make a match, the unmatching pieces are returned face-down to the pile, and the turn passes.
For younger kids, the game is played in a similar way, but the pieces are face-up throughout. There are also suggestions for playing in teams.
The game comes with three 12-piece sequences to match.
Why It’s Fun
This is a simple game, but it works on a couple of levels. First, it gets kids to understand how one action leads to the next. It also prompts language and narrative play as kids explain how the logic works. Obviously, it will help children to learn sequencing, which is an important early learning skill. When played with a parent or caregiver, the game can foster conversations about the different scenarios pictured on the cards. This is a gentle game in keeping with the spirit of Caillou, and it fosters learning, logic, and conversation in a very age-appropriate way. On repeat play, kids will be able to master the various sequences and know what comes next, a skill that can be transferred to other activities.
