What It Is
Flying R/C quads are currently a hot trend. However, some of them can be extremely expensive. Air Hogs has created the Air Hogs Elite Helix X4, a well-designed, easy-to-fly, and great-performing quad at a reasonable price that will be a hit with R/C enthusiasts of all skill levels. It does run on batteries, but it also comes with a USB cord that allows you to save battery life by charging the battery in the quad with your computer or in the wall with a USB adapter plug, which is sold separately. Once it's charged, set the quad on a stable surface and get ready to fly. There are both novice and expert settings, which you'll get to know as you play with this. There are also three stunts you can do.
Why It’s Fun
We found this very easy to use, and even a novice can have a satisfying flying experience right out of the box. The stunts are cool, but like any flying R/C, it takes a little practice to get it right. That's part of the fun, though. We were impressed by the powerful fan, the stability (thanks to gyro-stabilization), and the durability. We crashed this a lot as we were learning to fly it. It took crashing into walls, bookshelves, ceilings, and so forth without any damage. That's a huge plus for fans. If you're a fan of R/C and want a great high-performance toy that delivers a terrific value, then you'll want to check this out.
Who It’s For
The Air Hogs Elite Helix X4 is for ages 12 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Eight AA batteries are required.
The directions clearly state that you want to be in a large open area to fly this, and we agree. If there are fans or air conditioners blowing in the room, that's going to affect your flight. But the controls are sensitive to the touch and let you easily accommodate for all of that.
