What It Is
The B Kids ABC Touch Pad has three different play modes, which kids access by touching the squares at the bottom. In Learning Time mode, depending on what square kids touch, they will hear the letters A, B, and C; numbers 1, 2, and 3; or shapes: square, triangle, and circle. If kids touch any of the buttons twice, the toy switches to animal sounds, and kids will hear the sound of the animal pictured.
Game Fun mode engages kids in a light game where they have to touch the squares that light up. The touchpad makes a different noise indicating if kids have pushed a correct or incorrect square. More squares keep lighting up as kids play.
In Music Play mode, the squares function as real piano keys so kids can play music.
There is also a blue circle with a music note at the bottom of the touchpad. If kids tap this, the alphabet song will play. It plays the song in parts, though, so kids have to press it again if they want to hear the rest of these songs, which we found odd.
Why It’s Useful
Overall, this product has some pros and cons. It's a good size and has two volume levels, which is always helpful. And there are multiple play modes to keep kids entertained. We especially like the Music Play mode because music is always lots of fun, and kids like making their own music. The light game helps develop hand-eye coordination, and the animal noises are always a great way to entertain little ones.
However, the Learning Time mode only has three letters, three numbers, and three shapes, which isn't much, and the alphabet song shuts off midway.
Who It’s For
The B Kids ABC Touch Pad is for ages 6 months and up, which feels very young for this. It would be difficult for a 6-month-old to accurately press the buttons, so we think this is better for an older toddler.
What To Be Aware Of
Three AAA batteries are included, but they power the in-store try-me features. For best results, we recommend replacing the batteries before you play.
