What It Is
This new collection of poems is about some of the more obscure and absurd holidays that have found places on the calendar. “Holidays” such as Ohio Sheep Day, National Pig Day, Cow Appreciation Day, among many others are each recognized with their own poem that touches on the day’s significance. And, many of the poems feature witty puns. For example, as noted for National Skunk Day — “If the skunk did not exist, Then the skunk would not be mist. ” So bad, it’s good!
Why It’s Fun
These days, there seems like there is a holiday for everything. There’s even an International Bacon Day! Not all of author J. Patrick Lewis poems are rhyming, but they are clever and tons of fun. Adding to the humor and laughs are Mr. Lewis’ puns and Ms. Raff’s comical illustrations.
Who It’s For
The publisher recommends World Rat Day for kindergarten and up. Six is a good entry age as a child would need a more sophisticated sense of humor than a preschooler might have to catch on to the puns and witty humor.
