What It Is
Snipe Hunt is an indoor/outdoor hide-and-seek game. The object of the game is to be the first team or player to find the other team/player's snipe and return it to its nest. If you're playing in teams, each team picks a hiding area for their snipe. Once the snipes are hidden, all players meet back at the nest area. (Make sure the nest is in an area that is easily accessible to all players.) Once all players are present at the nest, they go and find each other's snipe. As soon as the snipes are removed from the nest, their internal timer begins. This means that as players hunt for the snipes, the snipes will make noises and their eyes will light up until they are "deactivated" by being placed back in the nest. The sounds help players locate the snipes. The game can also be played with one person hiding the snipe and a second person hunting for it. Snipe Hunt comes with a box, a snipe nest, and two snipes.
Why It’s Fun
Kids will like going on a hunt for the snipes and using the noises and lights to help them find the snipes. The game can be played indoors or outdoors, offering multiple possibilities for snipe hiding places and "hunting" scenes, so the game can be made different each time you play. Depending on where you hide the snipes, you can make the game as hard or as easy as you like. We also like how the game box looks like a crate for transporting animals complete with peepholes.
This is a little bit of a twist on basic hide-and-seek games because of the noises the Snipe make, which adds a level of perceptual challenge (i.e. watching and listening) to what might just be random seeking.
Who It’s For
Snipe Hunt is for ages 6 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
Four AAA batteries are included. (One part of the instructions says "AAA" and another part says "AA". It's AAA.) We had to replace the batteries in one of the snipes because it didn't seem to be working.
The game takes about 10 minutes to assemble the first time you play.
It takes two to five minutes for the snipes to start making noise.
Before playing, establish the hiding area boundaries and ground rules, for example: no snipes downstairs, don't go beyond the fence outside, etc.
