At TimetoPlayMag.com, we want to engage, inform and entertain our readers to give them the benefit of our knowledge, experience and the breadth of products we cover. We look at more than 10,000 new toys and children’s products every year, and our primary purpose is to help you make the best choices for the kids in your life.
Our goal is to give you the real story on what you’ll find when you bring a toy home. And we know that every kid and every family is different. That’s why we always say: “The hot toy is only hot if it’s hot for your child.”
Our editorial team has more than 100 years combined experience working in the toy industry. Our rating system ranks toys on 4 key criteria:
Over the years we’ve learned a lot about what makes great toys and exciting play experiences. We want to help you create the best experiences for your kids and your family.
Ultimately, you’re the best judge of what you want to bring into your home — and what’s best for your kids. And because you’re an important part of the Time to Play family, we invite you to let us know if you ever find an error or have any ideas how we can better help you. After all, we exist for one reason: to help you have more fun!
Learning Resources' Smart Snacks line combines pretend food play with educational content. One of the new activity sets in the line is Count 'Em Up Popcorn, which is designed to introduce preschoolers to counting, number identification, and number sets. Count 'Em Up Popcorn comes with 15 jumbo-sized popcorn pieces to count into five different-sized bowls. Each bowl has a number on it, 1–5. Place one popcorn piece in the bowl that says "1" on it. Place five popcorn pieces in the bowl that says "5" on it. Or place the bowls in sequence from largest to smallest. The large popcorn pieces are easy for small hands to grasp, which helps children develop fine motor skills, especially as they pick up the popcorn pieces and place them in the bowls. The bowls nest for easy storage.
This is a simple and fun way to engage kids in imaginative play while also introducing them to basic math concepts. There are no rules or instructions so we recommend that parents or caregivers play Count 'Em Up Popcorn with their kids at least the first time to expose children to the learning opportunities with the set. From there, kids can play with this set however they want, be it counting and sorting or just open-ended pretend food play.
Smart Snacks Count 'Em Up Popcorn is for ages 2 and up.
Wash the pieces in this set thoroughly before you use them the first time. Do not submerge them in water.
