At TimetoPlayMag.com, we want to engage, inform and entertain our readers to give them the benefit of our knowledge, experience and the breadth of products we cover. We look at more than 10,000 new toys and children’s products every year, and our primary purpose is to help you make the best choices for the kids in your life.
Our goal is to give you the real story on what you’ll find when you bring a toy home. And we know that every kid and every family is different. That’s why we always say: “The hot toy is only hot if it’s hot for your child.”
Our editorial team has more than 100 years combined experience working in the toy industry. Our rating system ranks toys on 4 key criteria:
Over the years we’ve learned a lot about what makes great toys and exciting play experiences. We want to help you create the best experiences for your kids and your family.
Ultimately, you’re the best judge of what you want to bring into your home — and what’s best for your kids. And because you’re an important part of the Time to Play family, we invite you to let us know if you ever find an error or have any ideas how we can better help you. After all, we exist for one reason: to help you have more fun!
The National Geographic 4-in-1 Explorer Navigation Tool is a compass, thermometer, whistle, and signal mirror all in one. One side panel shows the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. The other side panel opens up to reveal a mirror for signaling friends and the compass. On the bottom of the tool is a whistle, which can also be used for signaling friends. It comes with a carabiner clip so that kids can attach it to a belt loop or backpack while they are out exploring. The toy comes with an Activity Guide that includes suggestions for different ways kids can use the Navigation Tool. The Activity Guide also directs kids to NatGeoAcademy.com, a website where kids can learn about National Geographic explorers, find more activities to do with the Navigation Tool, and more.
The 4-in-1 Explorer Navigation Tool gives kids the tools they need to explore the world around them just like adult explorers. It introduces kids to reading a thermometer and using a compass to find their way, whether exploring inside or in the backyard.
The National Geographic 4-in-1 Explorer Navigation Tool is for ages 5 and up.
It's ideal for kids curious about the world around them and who like exploring in the backyard or on hikes with the family.
Even though the Navigation Tool includes a compass so kids can know which direction they're going, that doesn't mean that kids are ready to go out exploring by themselves. Adult supervision (and participation) is recommended when kids go exploring beyond the backyard.
