What It Is
What It Is
One of the newest mini robotic bugs from Innovation First's Hexbug line is the Hexbug Larva. This micro robotic creature slithers forward on smooth surfaces using a slow, rhythmic flexing motion. Designed to move just like real larvae, each of these creepy crawlers reacts to its environment thanks to a forward-facing infrared sensor that allows it to detect other larvae and objects in its path. When the Hexbug Larva encounters a roadblock, it spins around on two micro robotic wheels hidden beneath its hard exterior shell and heads off in a new direction. Hexbug Larva is available in various translucent colors, including red, green, indigo, orange, and black.
Why It’s Fun
One of the coolest things about the Hexbug Larva is that even though it's made of hard plastic, it gives the appearance of moving in a fluid motion. Its behavior is eerily mesmerizing to watch and interact with. The sophisticated design of the Hexbug Larva and all of the Hexbugs in the line—both in body and robotics—are what make Hexbugs so appealing to kids.
In fact, the thing that makes these so appealing is that the robotic technology is so sophisticated and the movement is so lifelike that it's hard to take one's eyes off them. It's fun to put obstacles in their way and watch them react—just like kids do with real bugs. There's also something adorably creepy about them that make them irresistible.
Who It’s For
The Hexbug Larva is for ages 8 and up.
What to Be Aware of
Three button cell batteries are included with each Hexbug Larva.
