What It Is
Mattel's So In Style line is a collection of African-American dolls with more authentic-looking facial features: such as fuller lips, a wider nose, more distinctive cheekbones, and curlier hair. The So In Style doll line has partnered with Pastry, a shoe company for junior girls, to create a collection of Pastry-inspired dolls. Kara's outfit features the Pastry logo on it, and the doll also wears Pastry-inspired shoes. Other So In Style Pastry dolls include Grace, Chandra, and Trichelle.
Why It’s Fun
The Pastry brand is cute and fashion-forward with a motto of "Live life sweet." That design philosophy is translated onto the So In Style Pastry dolls, creating stylish and fun dolls for girls.
Who It’s For
So In Style Pastry Kara is for ages 3 and up. The whole So In Style collection of dolls gives African-American girls their own Barbie dolls that they can relate to.
What to Be Aware of
Pastry's founders are Angela and Vanessa Simmons, the daughters of Rev Run from Run DMC.
