Our editorial team has more than 100 years combined experience working in the toy industry. Our rating system ranks toys on 4 key criteria:
Over the years we’ve learned a lot about what makes great toys and exciting play experiences. We want to help you create the best experiences for your kids and your family.
Ultimately, you’re the best judge of what you want to bring into your home — and what’s best for your kids. The See Yourself Camera is the latest item in Fisher-Price's Kid-Tough line of durable kids' electronics that are built to survive the kind of play that preschoolers engage in—including all kinds of drops. With this kid-friendly digital camera, kids can take digital pictures as well as videos with sound. The camera features a 180-degree swiveling lens so kids can easily take pictures and video of themselves, the sky, or directly in front of them. The camera also features child-friendly controls. There is no reading required. The buttons are big, making it easy for small hands to operate.
After taking pictures, kids can add special effects and stampers, then upload the pictures to a computer using a USB cable so they can edit, print, or email their work. Downloadable photo editing software (for PC only) lets kids add more effects and create books and cards.
The See Yourself Camera has a 1.8-inch color screen, a wrist strap, 4x digital zoom, an SD card slot, and low-light performance, so there is no need for a flash. The camera stores 1,300 digital images, but you can expand memory by adding an SD card, which is sold separately. The camera comes in a black, blue, and green style or a purple and pink style.
What's great about the See Yourself Camera is that it's not really a toy—it just looks like one. It's a real working camera designed specifically for the cognitive and physical abilities of preschoolers. Kids will like being able to take pictures with their own camera, and parents don't have to worry about their preschooler using and potentially damaging theirs. With its sturdy design and easy-to-use controls, this is a great first camera for aspiring young photographers and kids who want their very own digital camera like mom and dad.
The See Yourself Camera is for ages 3—7.
The camera includes four AA batteries. A USB cable is not included.
While the downloadable photo editing software is for PCs only, Mac users can still connect the camera directly to their Mac to transfer images.
