Our editorial team has more than 100 years combined experience working in the toy industry. Our rating system ranks toys on 4 key criteria:
- Fun — Does it engage the child? Does it inspire imaginative play? Does it contribute to creative expression? Is it entertaining?
- Repeat Play OR Collectibility — Some toys are played with, some are collected. If we feel a toy is better suited for collectibility, we’ll rank it based on Collectibility instead of Repeat Play.
- Repeat Play — Will kids come back to it over time? Does the toy allow diverse imaginative play experiences? Does it provide longer-term play value?
- Collectibility — Some toys may have limited traditional play, but kids will treasure them as collectibles.
- Assembly/Instructions — Is the toy easy to assemble? Are the instructions clear?

What It Is
Uglydolls have been around for a few years now. Each Uglydoll stuffed character has its own very unique personality, which kids can read about on its hangtag. For example, this is part of Ninja Batty Shogun's personality profile: "When Batty Shogun flies around at night with his best pal Ice-Bat, he does up the real dealio in an actual ninja costume. No red flames, stripes, or other crazy decorations. No spelling ninja with a 'z' at the end. Just straight up stealth mode. That's how he rolls. No sword, though. Those are sharp!"
There continue to be new Uglydoll stuffed characters coming out almost every month, but there are also a variety of Uglydoll accessories that feature these odd-looking creatures. One such item is the Uglydoll Ceramic Coin Bank featuring the character of Wage. The bank comes in orange, green, purple, or red.
Why It’s Fun
Some people think Uglydolls are, well, ugly. But we think they are cute and kids find them funny. The humor in the personality profiles is geared toward older kids and adults, but younger kids like the toys because they are silly. The stuffed characters are very cute and very soft, and the other Uglydoll items are great for showcasing your love of these guys in different ways.
