What It Is
Silly string is a controlled mess, completely harmless, and annoying to most adults. Seems like the perfect storm of play to us. As part of its Wackytivities line, Spin Master has introduced a new version of the classic toy called Spattter. This particular formulation is called Scatter Spattter, and it shoots two streams that are about twice the thickness of traditional silly string. And while it looks like it's making an extreme mess, it's really easy to clean up, so kids can have the fun, but mom won't be wracked with regret later. The can says it shoots more than a mile of the compound, and we didn't test it exactly, but you can tell that there's a lot in the 10-ounce can. You're going to go through this version a little faster than the other Spattter items (sold separately) because you're shooting two streams at once, but that's okay with us. It shoots a good 10–12 yards, so you definitely have an advantage if you're trying for a sneak attack. In this version, the two streams are fairly wide apart, so you're going to want to be strategic with your aim. The top looks really cool, and the trigger is easy for even little hands to work. This doesn't stick to walls, and when it dries, it can be easily picked up from floors without leaving any marks. While we would definitely recommend this for outdoor play or play in open spaces, you don't have to worry about making a permanent mess. This is available in a variety of colors.
Why It’s Fun
Kids will have a blast with this. It's really a good, clean mess.
Who It’s For
Scatter Spattter is for ages 8 and up.
What To Be Aware Of
One thing we really recognized in this particular version is that you're going to want to try to keep the can as vertical as possible as you fire. This prevents the spatter formula from collecting in the top. If it does, you can just clean it out and you're good to go again.
This does have a pretty strong chemical smell when it's sprayed, but it's not unpleasant, and sitting in a closed room with the stuff for a couple of hours didn't bother us.
There are directions on the can you should follow for best results.
