What It Is

Spectrix is a card game for color lovers. Depending on how many players you have, each player receives a certain number of cards. The object of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your hand by placing them into color sequences or collections of the same color. Each player also gets a Spectrix Guide Card to see how the colors fit in the sequence. On each player's turn, there are three actions a player can take. First, a player can play three or more cards of the same color or three or more cards with consecutive colors as dictated by the Spectrix Guide Card. A player could also add one or more cards to any player's existing combination of cards. You can only do one of these actions per turn. If you can't do any of those moves, you must draw a card from the deck and add it to your hand.

If you are able to form a complete color spectrum at any point during the game, you say "White Light" out loud. All other players automatically get five points, and scoring points isn't a good thing. Here's why: The player who manages to play all his cards first wins the round. The other players get five points for each card left in their hand. When a player reaches 100 points, he is eliminated, and the last player in the game wins.

Spectrix comes with 96 Spectrix Cards, six Spectrix Guide Cards, and illustrated rules. The game is for two to six players.

Why It’s Fun

Once you get the hang of playing this game, it is fun to play. But you might want to read carefully through the instructions before you start and play a practice round to make sure everyone knows how to play. It can become a little complicated because players are allowed to rearrange card sequences and combinations in order to play their cards, but there are valid and invalid ways to make these moves.

Who It’s For

Spectrix is for ages 8 and up.

What To Be Aware Of

This game can also be used as a memory game for younger children or as color flash cards.
