What It Is
The See-Thru Light Designer is a versatile activity toy that lets kids create and animate their drawings. The unit looks like a tablet, and it has two slide-out transparent panels. To play, slide the panels out of the unit and either draw or trace on each. We found a cute picture of a goat on Crayola.com, which we printed out and traced on one panel. Then we drew a scene for the goat on the other panel. Using the buttons on the bottom of the unit, you an animate the lights in different ways to give a sense of motion and bring your drawings to life. Because these are clear, you can add any kind of background you want. So, we decided to add a third element to our See-Thru Light Designer: a picture of the Manhattan skyline. And our sweet meadow scene became a giant goat in the city. Of course, imagination plays a big part in this. The set comes with four Mini Gel FX Markers. There is storage for the markers on the back of the unit. We liked how the markers dried so they won't smudge while kids play. The markers also easily wipe off the panels with a damp cloth or paper towel.
Why It’s Fun
Crayola has created similar products in the past, but we think this is an upgrade in terms of ease of use, portability, and the various light effects.
