What It Is
Little Digits is a playful app that uses all 10 fingers for learning about numbers and counting. The play is built around the iPad's unique touch-responsive technology. Little Digits responds to how many fingers a child places on the screen.
There are two activity areas in Little Digits: one for your young child just learning about numbers and a second space for kids who are slightly older working on basic addition and subtraction.
For young children, start with the area labeled "123". Put one finger on the screen, and a cartoon character in the shape of the number one appears. Put 10 fingers on the screen, and a different cartoon character in the shape of the number 10 appears. If parents are playing together with kids, parents can put two fingers on the screen and the child can put two fingers on the screen so that a cartoon number four character pops up.
Try out some advanced number play with a tap of the addition or subtraction sign. These areas have kids working on combining and taking away fingers to solve given math problems. You can solve each problem by counting with your fingers right on the screen or figure it out off the app and press down your fingers when you're ready. Don't get it right? The app shares an error noise but leaves kids to try again.
Why It’s Fun
Little Digits is a fun way to introduce young kids to numbers and counting. We like that the app recognizes how many fingers a child has placed on the iPad screen and that as kids get older, they can practice addition and subtraction.
Who It’s For
Little Digits is for ages 3–7.
What To Be Aware Of
Make sure to check out the option to record your own voice saying the name of each number and math symbol. You can do this from the Little Digits home screen.
Also, because you are using multiple fingers on the screen, it is important that you go into your settings and turn off "multitasking gestures", which allows you to swipe and move between apps when you have multiple fingers on the screen.
Little Digits is compatible with the iPad. It requires iOS 5.0 or later. The app is available in the following languages: English, Bokmål, Norwegian, Chinese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
