What It Is
A couple of years ago, we introduced our audience to a hilarious book called Zoomer by author-illustrator Ned Young. In this follow-up, the prankster pup Zoomer is definitely up to his old tricks. He turns the hot summer outdoors into a winter wonderland thanks to an over active snow cone machine.
Why It’s Fun
My kids and I loved the original title and were hoping for as engaging an experience in a follow-up. While our wish was granted with Zoomer’s Summer Snowstorm, this tale does not live up to the fun and humor of the original. And, the illustrations are not as vibrant as the original title, which may be due to the paperback format. (We purchased the Scholastic Book Club version.) But, what was really missing was a surprising and super funny twist at the end of the book that made Young’s first title so great.
Who It’s For
This book should have some appeal to the pre-K to kindergarten set, but it’s definitely one to check out of the library.
What To Be Aware Of
The charm, wit and humor of the original Zoomer story is, sadly, not part of the follow-up title.
