What It Is
The Smart Tablet is designed to introduce preschoolers to letters, phonics, numbers, first words, and typing through a variety of games and activities. There are six modes of play. In Letters mode, use the keyboard to press letters and make up words, then play and listen for phonics sounds in Phonics mode. The bilingual Numbers mode features counting activities (1–10) in both English and Spanish. In Music mode, touch number or letter keys to hear notes and songs. Game mode provides 20 mazes and nine levels of game play. Typing mode gives children a free-play experience to type their own messages using the Qwerty keyboard, which shows upper and lowercase letters.
The tablet’s LCD screen changes between a green, red, and blue backlight. The screen color changes automatically during play, and the child can also change to his favorite color at any time. The kick-stand on the back of the tablet makes it easy for kids to use the tablet on a table or their lap.
Why It’s Fun
Today’s kids are really into technology, and they want to have the same gadgets as mom and dad and other grown-ups do. With the Smart Tablet, preschoolers can feel grown-up with a tablet device designed just for them. The Smart Tablet is easy to use, and kids will like all the different activities and games. Parents will like that the content is educational but presented to kids in a fun way.
Who It’s For
The Smart Tablet is for ages 3–6.
This is going to be most appealing to kids who haven’t played with or have access to adult tablets.
What To Be Aware Of
Kids who have already been playing with so-called adult tablets and kid software may find this a little bit rudimentary. Kids at the younger end of the recommended age spectrum, though, will like the different activities that are cognitively appropriate for them.
Three AA batteries are included. These are for try-me purposes, and Fisher-Price recommends replacing them before you play for best results. You will need a Phillips screwdriver to replace the batteries.
There are two volume settings: low and high.
