What It Is
What It Is
First there was Tickle Me Elmo. Then came TMX Elmo and Elmo Live. The newest electronic version of Elmo, and the first from Hasbro's Playskool brand, is Let's Rock Elmo.
Dressed in a concert-style T-shirt, Let's Rock Elmo sings six songs and interacts with different musical instruments. Let's Rock Elmo comes with a microphone, tambourine, and drum set. To hear Elmo sing, place his microphone or tambourine in his hands and press his left foot. When you place the drum set in front of Elmo and under his feet, then press his left foot, Elmo will sing and play the drums. Thanks to sensors in the doll's feet and hands, Elmo always knows what instrument he's playing.
Kids can also sing and "play" the instruments along with Elmo, and Elmo knows when kids are playing. The instruction manual includes the lyrics to Elmo's songs, so kids can sing along.
Elmo also interacts with other Let's Rock instruments, including a guitar, larger microphone, and keyboard. Each is sold separately.
Why It’s Fun
Elmo continues to be a popular character on Sesame Street, one that kids love watching on the show and playing with through toys. Let's Rock Elmo is a great interactive toy for Elmo fans. Kids can play and "make music" with Elmo while being introduced to kid-sized musical instruments.
Who It’s For
Let's Rock Elmo is for ages 18 months—4 years.
What to Be Aware of
Let's Rock Elmo comes in Try Me mode. For the full range of features, make sure you move the On/Off/Try Me switch to the On position after taking the toy out of packaging. You'll also want to put in new batteries. Let's Rock Elmo comes with six AA batteries, but they are for demo purposes only.
The instruments that are sold separately have some play value on their own, but they are best used with the Elmo character. If you buy all of them you'll spend more than $100 for the entire collection.
