A Pixies & Pampering Spa-Themed Birthday Party for a 6-Year-Old

For my niece’s sixth birthday, I wanted to host something as special and as girly as she is! I planned for a spa day but thanks to Disney on Ice, my petite princess is currently obsessed with Tinker Bell so I had to brainstorm a way to mesh the two concepts and so “Pixies & Pampering” rose out of fairy dust! As girly as I am, education is paramount and something I reiterate to her. To prioritize the pretty, I put brains before beauty with a few activities so check it out and make it your own!

Spa ThemeDécor on a Dime:

Use what you already have! Once your theme and color pallet is selected, get creative with what’s around the house. The Tinker Bell theme has green and turquoise as the dominant colors with pink as an accent. There’s no shortage of pink in my arsenal so I played up the color with rolled hand towels and fuchsia iron ribbons. I used orchids scattered around to reinforce the spa theme or you can opt for your choice of flowers from Dollar Tree. Three rolled hand towels of pink and cream were placed in antique looking silver serving trays (from Dollar Tree) of different sizes. Not all Party City stores are created equal. I shopped three locations before finding the Tinker Bell scene setter for about $6. I purchased six latex Tinker Bell balloons and it cost another $5 to fill them with helium. I added table cover plates and souvenir cups. My white console table became the nail and facial stations. Everyone played dress-up with pixie wings, wands and costume jewelry in various colors (red, orange, blue, purple, and green) from Dollar Tree.

Earn the Pretty:

Once our pixies choose their fairy look, the party stared with a few age appropriate games testing their reading and math skills. For each correct answer, our girls earned play money to use to buy their spa service. The games are set so everyone wins. I purchased hot pink die cut-outs of letters and numbers from Dollar Tree that also doubled as décor. Holding the individual letters up, the girls had to each tell me the correct answer and after they all gave it a chance, we let them know if they got the correct answer. If anyone didn’t know the answer, we worked through until they got it. For numbers and words, I used a Tinker Bell chalkboard (includes two pieces of chalk and a butterfly eraser) that was only $1.00 at Party City! Each girl went home with one as a part of their goody bag. Also, the Tinker Bell chalkboard also doubled as décor/signage for the spa portion of the party with the name of the service and price listed.

Spa ThemePretty Time!

After they filled their purses with cash, it was time to get pampered! On the menu: manicures, spa facials, braids, and fairy ink (tattoo). To keep it age appropriate, I used Disney Princess polish from Walmart that rubs off and comes in vibrant colors like red, blue, yellow, magenta, and purple. The set included a nail file and each girl went home with one polish. For older girls or if you want to use real polish, NYC Quick Dry does the trick! I used my Conair facial steamer but that wasn’t popular with the girls so we moved on to the facemask from the Dollar Tree. It was cheap but was more like a thin lotion than a thick mask so I would suggest a mint mask so the girls could feel the tingle. The cucumber over the eyes was added excitement for them and it doubled as garnish for their smoothies! The Tinker Bell tattoo was a sparkling embellishment and easy activity… just peel, stick and voila!
