These cookies are a welcome addition to any birthday party and are the perfect party favor. Customize the colors to coordinate with the party’s décor. Keep in mind that the cookies must be prepared in advance because 6–8 hours of drying time is required for the decoration.
• Your favorite sugar cookie recipe
• Ice cream cone cookie cutter
• Fondant Roller
• Food coloring in brown and any other colors you’d like to use
• Royal Icing
• Corn Syrup
• Mini Alphabet Stamps
• Parchment Paper
• Powdered Sugar (for rolling out the fondant)
1. Once the cookies are baked and have cooled, add a thin layer of corn syrup to the top of the cookie. This serves as the “glue” so the fondant adheres to the cookie.
2. Roll out the fondant on a sheet of parchment paper, lightly dusted with powdered sugar. You can also substitute corn starch if you prefer.
3. Use the ice cream cone cookie cutter to cut out the design for the brown cone and the two scoops of ice cream. (Quick tip: I trimmed my scoops by flipping the cutter upside down.)
4. Starting with the cone, place the fondant pieces onto the cookie. Work your way up to the top of the cookie.
5. In a separate bowl, mix the brown food coloring into the royal icing to make the “chocolate sauce” for the top of the cone.
6. Using a spatula, smooth a small amount of royal icing onto the top of the ice cream scoop.
7. While the icing is still wet, add sprinkles, a cherry and any other decorations of your choosing.
8. If they will be used as party favors, stamp a name into the fondant cone. From there, add lines to resemble the texture of an ice cream cone.
9. Once the royal icing has dried (at least 6-8 hours) place the cookies into clear, cellophane bags and tie with a decorative ribbon. Now you have the perfect party favor.
