What It Is
Kids can get to know Amelia Bedelia, the character who takes everything literally, when she was a little girl through a chapter book series written by Herman Parish, the nephew of Amelia's creator, Peggy Parish. Amelia Bedelia: Road Trip is the third book in the series, and it features illustrations by Lynne Avril. The story follows Amelia and her family as they pile into the car for a vacation they won't forget. Amelia's parents announce that they are going to roam on vacation, and after Amelia gets over the disappointment that they aren't going to Rome, Italy, but instead are going to roam around different places in their home state, she starts packing. Her dad tells her to pack light, and so, of course, Amelia packs her desk lamp because it was the only light not attached to the ceiling. Eventually the Bedelia family gets on the road, and even though things don't always go according to plan, what's important is that they are spending time together as a family.
Why It’s Fun
This new chapter book continues the silliness and innocent bumbling of the Amelia Bedelia character that was originally created 50 years ago. The illustrations in this book are funny and whimsical and will help beginning chapter book readers envision the story. Parents and grandparents who remember reading the original Amelia Bedelia stories will enjoy passing on the fun to a new generation of kids.
Who It’s For
Amelia Bedelia: Road Trip is for ages 6–10.
