What It Is
The dad in this book plays horsey like no other! In fact, he was so good, bandits lassoed him and took him away. His kids set off to rescue him and find themselves on a chase that leads them through a rodeo, the circus, a polo match, and even the Kentucky Derby, before they elude the rotten rustlers.
Why It’s Fun
This new book is an homage to all dads who willingly drop to all fours and play horsey with their kids. Author-illustrator Troy Cummings has created the perfect reenactment of a child’s fantasy while riding Pop’s back. The illustrations are vibrant and have a cartoon feel that make the story really come alive. The graphics on the last page of the book cleverly reveal that the story is actually just a figment of the kids’ imaginations. And, the mother’s offer to play airplane is the perfect tease to what’s hopefully a future book.
Who It’s For
The publisher recommends this book for ages 3-5, but it will likely appeal to a broader range of ages. It’s a great read for Father’s Day or a special dad’s birthday.
