What It Is

Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug is a board book all about a dad's nicknames for a child. This 26-page book features 12 spreads, and each one features a nickname that human dads or animal dads give to their kids out of affection and the reasons why. For example, the penguin pages read, "Daddy calls me hockey puck because we slip and slide on the ice." There is rhyming and nice watercolor illustrations throughout the book. This book is written by J.D. Lester and illustrated by Hiroe Nakata.

Why It’s Fun

This is a sweet and simple story that captures the love and playfulness of the father/child relationship. In addition to being a cute story about fathers and kids, it also shows kids different animal behaviors.

Who It’s For

Daddy Calls Me Doodlebug is for ages 1–3. It's a cute story for any adult to read to a child, but especially for dads to read to their kids.

What To Be Aware Of

There is a companion title for moms called Mommy Calls Me Monkeypants.
