Back to School

Can we really be talking about Back to School already? Well, depending on where you live, this is coming as no news to you. For those living in states such as Florida or South Carolina, school starts in early August, while for most of the country, kids go back around the first of September.

Back to School time isn't just about getting new stuff, however. It's a major shift in the lives of kids and families. The summer schedule that might have included six to eight hours of play a day is suddenly gone. Between eight hours of school and after school activities, dinner and homework, it's a major change. Kids are lucky if they get one hour a day for open-ended play. And with cooler weather, in some states, and the end of daylight savings time, the playground shifts indoors.

But just because kids are spending less time with their toys and games, that doesn't mean the fun has to stop. Even the most basic items like lunchboxes and backpacks are packing additional fun with favorite characters. And don't forget the basics—there's nothing like a new box of crayons, new notebooks and great pencils to get kids in the mood for school.
