Dr. Dreadful Alien Autopsy Set
I received the Dr. Dreadful Alien Autopsy Set to review. It is a Spin Master product, and part of the Doctor Dreadful brand. The product is for ages 5 and up, but with adult supervision I would say a 3 year old could do it. There are many things you can do with this set - you can even make gummy alien eyeballs, lung bugs, and intestines. You can also make alien guts bubble up with the motorized stomach. The set comes with an alien body and base, a measuring cup and syringe, a stir stick and scoop, and four packets of food.
When I received this set in the mail, I knew it would be perfect to take to our next playdate with 2 older boys who would love it. I showed up, and showed it to the two 11 year old boys who went crazy for it. This was very easy to set up, and the instructions were easy to follow. We started off with the eyes and lung bugs. It was easy to measure and the only thing we needed was warm water. We had 2 small problems with the lung bugs: by the time the mixture was poured into the eyes and being put into the syringe it started to become solid before we were able to get both lung bugs made.
The other problem was that the instructions tell you to put the alien head and lungs into the fridge for the best results, but the lungs would not come back off so we just left them. We went on to do the intestines which didn’t turn out like the picture - more like a blob of goo. The best, and most fun, thing about this set was the alien guts. We measured, mixed, and then poured the stomach food into the stomach and then turned on the motor. The alien guts bubbled, and flew everywhere! Everyone thought this was the best part of the toy. The candy it makes is just ok. Some of the kids liked it, some of it they didn’t like. All in all it was fun, and very entertaining. This set comes with enough food to play with this set a couple of times, but when you run out you will have to buy the refill pack.
What to be aware of:
- This set can and will get messy, so make sure your workspace is covered.
- You need 4 AA batteries that are not included.
- Adult assembly and supervision is required.
- Refrigerating gummy candy helps it to set faster.
- Refills are sold separately.
