What It Is
“Little ones love kisses” is the opening line of this new picture book which celebrates the kisses mommies bestow on their little ones. The setting is a barnyard and the subjects are animals such as calves, kids, piglets and so on. With each kiss given is the sound each animal makes — “baaa” kisses, “woof” kisses, etc. As the story concludes, readers are led inside the farmhouse where the best kisses of all happen. Of course, those kisses are a mommy’s good night kiss.
Why It’s Fun
Nancy Tafuri’s watercolor illustrations are vibrant and make this a fabulous addition to any home library. Parents and children will love to make the animal and kissing sounds. The repetition and soft tone give this selection the makings of a classic. I haven’t covered many books for the baby-toddler age group, but this one is such a gem, it makes me long for the days when my kids and I fit so snuggly in their nursery rocking chair.
Who’s Going To Love It
This really is the perfect lap-reading, bed time book and would be a great “gift” from a toddler to his or her mommy for Mother’s Day. Alas, since moms represent the majority of our readership and picture book purchasers, you may have to pick this one up yourself! Best suited for the very wee ones, it also makes a great baby shower or first/second birthday gift. No matter the occasion, this book is sure to result in one thing ... all kinds of kisses! Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there!
