Just Dance Summer Party
Summer May Be Winding Down, But That Doesn’t Mean We Can’t Keep On Dancing!
What It Is
Just Dance Summer Party is the latest release in the Just Dance franchise, which now includes Just Dance, Just Dance 2 and Just Dance Kids. The Just Dance games are games for Wii where the players have to mirror the dance moves of an on-screen character. Summer Party, which is billed as a Limited Edition game, came out this summer and includes 23 tracks featuring current and past hits.
Why It’s Fun
While you can play this game alone, it’s most fun when played in a group because up to four people can dance at the same time. Each dancers’ score and ranking is displayed at the end of the song. There are also duet-specific songs for two people to dance together in extremely funny duets.
This is a great party game and almost every song is a perfect party song that is fun to listen to. The songs include Firework by Katy Perry (It seems like every dance game is required by some unwritten law to include that one right now.), Jai Ho! by the Pussycat Dolls, Here Comes The Hotstepper by The Hit Crew, Pump Up The Volume by MARRS and Song 2 by Blur just to name a few.
Many of the on-screen characters that you have to follow are hysterical. For the song Funkytown by Sweat Invaders, the character is a giant frog that looks funny and performs dance moves that had my friends and me laughing too hard to follow at times. In the song, Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf, the character is a werewolf with a motorcycle that becomes part of the dance.
Who’s Going To Love It
There is a great mix of music on this disc with something for tweens, teens, young and older adults. Members of those age groups should also find the game suitable for their skill levels, and even if they aren’t hitting the moves on cue, they will still have fun dancing with friends and family.
What To Be Aware Of
I busted this game out one night for an impromptu dance party, and my friends and I had a blast. One thing we couldn’t figure out at the time was which mode would be best for us to “just dance”. There are almost too many modes and options, which, if you are impatient like me, can get frustrating as you try to find the best one for your party.
This would be a much better game if there were closer to 40 songs on the disc but at $29.99, it is one of the less expensive dance games on the market.
If you are on the fence about purchasing this game, you might want to hold off until October when Just Dance 3 is released. Once Just Dance 3 is out, compare the song lists and buy the game that has the most songs that you and your dance crews like.
You can play this game over and over...until you get tired of the songs.
3 out of 5
It has to be fun or it wouldn’t be on Time to Play. But some games are more fun than others so here’s our scale: 1 is fun, 2 is a lot of fun, 3 is great, 4 is awesome and 5 is out-of-this-world!
