I Spy Spectacular
What It Is
This new release marks the 20th year of the I Spy series. I Spy author Jean Marzollo created new riddles to accompany Walter Wick’s classic photo layouts from the early years of the series. The complex images range from traditional toy layouts to model village set-ups, holiday toy store window (a favorite), and foliage. Readers are asked to find an equally wide range of objects.
Why It’s Fun
The riddles and photo layouts of toys, “found” objects and other scenery make I Spy books fun to do with the kids whether at home or on the go. As usual, many of the layouts in this book are quite busy, adding a memory challenge for repeated readings. The books can also be fun for early readers, and parents can enjoy listening to their kids learn to read the rhyming pattern.
Who’s Going To Love It
If you don’t own any I Spy books or are a die-hard fan and must have them all, then this book may be for you. I would be more inclined to borrow it from the library, as it’s really just a reprint of classic layouts marketed with a 20th anniversary spin. Parents should be aware that there are three spreads featuring some circus clown puppets and Venetian opera masks that can be pretty creepy for some kids.
