Zhu Zhu Pets
A Small Pet Adventure With Some Big Fun!
What It Is
Last holiday season’s most popular toy line, Zhu Zhu Pets, is now one of the summer’s hottest video games for kids. Zhu Zhu Pets the video game, recreates the robo-hamster toys in a virtual world where kids can care for their pets and compete in maze races with the hamsters as playable characters. The game is easily played using the intuitive touch screen on the DS.
Why It’s Fun
What kid wouldn’t want the chance to play in a giant structure of tubes, slides and ramps? Sure you can take the kids to an expensive theme park or germ-infested, fast-food playpen, or you can let them run wild in the digital version of an over-the-top hamster city. That’s exactly what kids get to do in Zhu Zhu Pets: The Video Game. Using the DS stylus and touch screen, players guide his or her favorite real-world Zhu Zhu Pets, including Mr. Squiggles and Num Nums, through mazes of tubes, slides, ramps, and pinball bumpers. The hamsters can run through the mazes on foot or in some hysterical accessories like a skateboard, hamster ball and even a car! While moving through the mazes, players collect coins, carrots, and other prizes. There are also opportunities to rescue baby hamsters that have gotten lost in the maze — super cute!
The maze missions are only part of the fun in Zhu Zhu Pets. The second element is caring for the hamsters in a Nintendogs-like environment. In this mode, players have to feed, exercise, play with and toilet train the hamsters. The hamster environments can be decorated and upgraded with items and prizes collected in the mazes.
Who’s Going To Love It
Fans of the Zhu Zhu Pets toys are going to love this game. Kids as young as four should be able to easily figure out the controls and will love taking care of the digital hamsters.
What To Be Aware Of
There are only a couple of Zhu Zhu Pets available at the start of the game, however, players will unlock new pets by winning maze missions. Mazes are also unlocked as kids progress through the game with more than 30 levels in six different worlds ultimately available.
3 out of 5
It has to be fun or it wouldn’t be on Time to Play. But some games are more fun than others so here’s our scale: 1 is fun, 2 is a lot of fun, 3 is great, 4 is awesome and 5 is out-of-this-world!
