Rhyming Dust Bunnies

What It Is

A story about four dust bunny pals named Ed, Ned, Ted and Bob. As the title implies, they like to say rhyming words, but Bob puts an end to the rhyming sequence when trying to call attention to the impending danger of a broom. In the end, they all wind up where dust bunnies should be, in theory -- the vacuum cleaner.

Why It’s Fun

Don’t you wish the dust bunnies in your house could talk? (Or, maybe not; I’ve been in houses, including mine at times, where the noise would be deafening!) The idea of a rhyming story involving these often neglected, but inevitable, household “pests” is, on the (not-so-clean) surface, terrific idea.

But, I’m afraid the story falls short and it’s not as fun as the whimsical title would lead you to believe. Rhyming can be so much fun and the concept creates an expectation and potential for lots of silliness. However, I wish the author gave us more of a story to follow. I guess I was expecting a rhyming tale about the “day in the life” of a dust bunny.

Who’s Going To Love It

Rhyming never ceases to amuse kids, and a child who reads may enjoy reading it to his or her younger sibling. As someone who purchased it blindly through a monthly school book club, I wish I had been able to “try before you buy.” Definitely one to check out at your local library, but careful not to let it get swept under the rug. (Sorry, couldn’t resist!)

The publisher’s recommended age is 3 to 5 which seems about right.
