Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky
What It Is
Mystery Dungeon is the current series of Pokémon games, introduced in 2005, in which players play the game as a Pokémon creature rather then a human trainer. The latest installment in the series, Explorers of Sky, is a continuation of the previous games—Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness—and features a similar dungeon-exploring gameplay experience with an expanded story line. In Sky, we learn what happened to Grovyle the Thief and find out how the Wigglytuff Guild comes together. These names might not mean much to you but fans of the series, of which there are many, will want to know all about them.
Why It’s Fun
Explorers of Sky is more than just an expansion game, in fact, it’s packed with newness! For starters, there are five new hero Pokémon the human player can become, and there are new Special Episodes that allow the player to experience even more adventure through the eyes of some of the other characters appearing in the story.
There are also a variety of new Dungeons that are unlocked as you progress through the game and are more difficult than those of the previous games.
Finally, the driving force behind any Pokémon game is the growing number of Pokémon themselves. Explorers of Sky contains more than 490 Pokémon with which players can interact and even the rare Pokémon Shaymin (Again, fans will know.) makes an appearance for the first time in a Pokémon Mystery Dungeon title, which is sure to make the fans go nuts!
Who’s Going To Love It
The Mystery Dungeon series has allowed the Pokémon games to grow with it’s audience by creating a more challenging game that older kids and teens will want to play.
As you may have gathered from this review and all the mentions of crazy names that mean nothing to non-Pokémon players, this game is mainly going to appeal to people who enjoyed the last two Mystery Dungeon titles.
What To Be Aware Of
One of the coolest elements of Explorers of sky is a WiFi feature that DSi players will love. The game lets you send rescue requests to friends over the Nintendo WiFi Connection. That way, if you get defeated in a dungeon, you can be rescued by a friend and continue right where you were defeated without any penalty!
4 out of 5
It has to be fun or it wouldn’t be on Time to Play. But some games are more fun than others so here’s our scale: 1 is fun, 2 is a lot of fun, 3 is great, 4 is awesome and 5 is out-of-this-world!
