What It Is
The Laugh & Learn Shapes & Colors Music Show for Baby app is compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch. It is designed for even the youngest child to use. There are two levels of play. In the first level, a tap on the screen launches colored shapes. Kids can move the shapes by touching and dragging them or tilting the iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch. The second level (which seems to make a big jump in cognitive ability in kids) features the colored shapes and a keyboard. Kids can tap on the keyboard's keys to play music or touch the colored shapes to hear their signature songs. The app is free to download.
Why It’s Fun
Of course, this app won't teach shapes and colors, but it will reinforce that kind of learning if parents or caregivers have taught these basic concepts. The app is colorful and cheerful, but parents will want to keep the volume low and make sure their expensive technology is protected from drops or spills.
Who It’s For
The Laugh & Learn Shapes & Colors Music Show for Baby app is for ages 6 months and up. Kids over 2 will probably not be interested in playing with this app.
What To Be Aware Of
To get to the second level, you have to restart the app.
There really are no instructions, so kids learn how to use the app through trial and error.
Each shape in level one has a sound, so when the kid gets five of them going at once, it can create quite a racket. And it might be confusing to infants as they try to process all the noise.
